Abstract
The red alga G. verrucosa is growing on pebbles, shells, or rocks in the shallow littoral and upper sublittoral belt in our coast. This alga is also famous in a viewpoint which metabolites prostaglandin A2 and E2. As part of search for new biologically active substances from marine organisms, we have examined the bioactive metabolites from the marine red alga G. verrucosa. As the results, we have isolated a glycerolglycoside named GV-12 as well ad 3 kinds of glycolipids named GV-12 as well as 3 kinds of glycolipids named GV-5, -6 and -7. GV-5 and -6 were mildly cytotoxic against mouse murine leukemia L1210 cells with IC_(50) values of 8.0 §¶/§¢ against human epidermoid carcinoma KB cells, respectively. Furthermore, GV-5 and GV-6 exhibited the differentiating effect against F9 teratocacinoma stem cells.
